Our Veteran Employees – Part 5

CF Evans Construction is proud of our employees who served in the United States Military. Their work ethic and commitment to service shines through in all they do for us, and helps to make us successful. In the weeks leading up to Veteran’s Day, we will be posting interviews with five employees who selflessly served their country, and continue to serve alongside their coworkers to create communities.

This week, meet George Higdon (or GP as we call him), Assistant Project Manager. GP enlisted in the SC Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer in 2007 when he was a senior in High School and was assigned to the 1221st Engineer Company. He attended The Citadel in the fall of 2007 year and bounced around from Fort Leonard Wood to Fort Jackson, Fort Benning, Fort Knox and Fort Lewis throughout college for various training programs and received his Commission in 2011 upon graduation. He became a Platoon Leader at the 125th MRBC Company and in 2012, he completed his officers basic course. Upon completion he was sent to the 124th Horizontal Engineer Company and in 2013, deployed to Afghanistan as a Platoon Leader. He returned home in 2014 and became Executive Officer before moving back to the 125th MRBC as the Company Executive Officer. He is currently located in a staff position with 122nd Engineer Battalion.

“I was fumbling around looking for a job following my return to the States in 2014 and heard about CF Evans. I was very pleased to hear about the friendly and family focused work environment; everyone is so polite and respectful! I didn’t have much experience at the time but was lucky enough to get an interview followed by employment.

As a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard, I serve to give back to the community and be a part of an organization whose purpose is to protect the people. I enjoy being a part of such a large organization that has so many moving pieces where everyone is working together to accomplish a shared goal. And being a member of the SC Army National Guard, I am given the opportunities to assist in relief of and recovery from natural disasters on the home front.”

When asked how CF Evans supports his continued desire to serve, GP replied, “CF Evans does a great job at understanding the responsibilities of still serving in the Guard. We get called up for a mission randomly and for unknown periods of time and the company accepts and supports that we have this obligation of service to attend to. I feel that CF Evans appreciates our service and I respect that. I also have a large amount of appreciation for the fact that CF Evans has a community support initiative and charitable matching program; it’s great that they search for ways to support the community. Their drive to help others strengthens my desire to serve.”

We hope you have enjoyed hearing about our employees who have served our great country! Are you interested in joining them and becoming part of our team? Visit our careers page to see current opportunities or to be notified of future openings.
