Panelists

David Summers (moderator) – CF Evans Construction
As Director of Construction, David is responsible for overseeing and directing all activities and personnel related to the construction operations of the company. This includes working with Preconstruction during preliminary schedule and budget creation, subcontractor qualification, constructability reviews, and value engineering exercises. David is responsible for ensuring the Owner’s expectations are met and exceeded and is responsible for monitoring all work for compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, as well as overall conformance to the contract documents. Other critical duties include the recruitment and training of the construction team, as well as providing career leadership for the construction personnel. Since joining CF Evans in 2002, David has held the positions of Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, General Project Manager, and Division Manager. David is a graduate of Clemson University, where he majored in Construction Science and Management and minored in Business.
Mike Schwarz – Woodfield Investments
Mike has the primary responsibility of sourcing and developing new multifamily projects in South Carolina and Georgia.  Mike also has a guiding role in capital markets and strategic direction of Woodfield.
Prior to joining Woodfield, Mike was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Summit Properties. His responsibilities included overseeing all investing activities of the company including development, acquisitions, and dispositions. Before he was COO, Mike was Summit’s Chief Financial Officer.
Mike received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and Masters in Accounting degree from the University of South Carolina.

Rusty Porter – CF Evans Construction
Dating back to 1986, Rusty has an extensive resume with an emphasis on design/build team leadership and preconstruction services. As Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Rusty is responsible for the operations budget throughout the entire preconstruction phase. Rusty also supervises all estimating and schedule development. In addition, Rusty analyzes project logistics and value engineering throughout all phases of the construction management process.
Charles L. Travis III, FAIA – Housing Studio
Chuck Travis has been a long-term advocate for the art, craft and technology of housing practice, dedicating his career to formulating housing design strategies that are both economically and environmentally sustainable. His work has resulted in applicable solutions for the challenges housing projects bring to owners, communities and infrastructure. Numerous design awards, including multiple AIA awards, a traveling fellowship, and over thirty multi-family industry awards, attest to the impact his work as had on suburban communities, high-rise condominiums, historic renovations, and single-family homes.

In 2010, Chuck received the AIA Charlotte Service Award in recognition of his extraordinary service to the community and profession. Chuck has lectured on housing design trends to national and international audiences and continues to serve as a frequent juror to academic housing studios and award committees. Currently Mayor of Cornelius, North Carolina, Chuck has worked to establish an Architectural Review Board and co-authored guidelines for the preservation of the town’s historic residential district.

Jason Munday, PE – SeamonWhiteside
As Civil Engineering Division Head and Partner at SeamonWhiteside, Jason is responsible for supervising and collaborating with a team of talented engineers, land planners, and landscape architects with a wide variety of skill sets in various sectors of land development. Although experienced in residential, industrial, municipal, recreation, and transportation sectors, his passion lies in the planning and design of high density mixed use and multifamily residential projects in more urban environments that by nature require more creative engineering solutions. As a licensed professional civil engineer, his experiences while working hand-in-hand with numerous land planners, architects, urban designers, and landscape architects over the past 14+ years has broadened his focus and allowed him to move beyond the stereotypical straight line, nerdy engineer prototype. This expanded approach has led to many successful projects throughout the Charleston region that have a positive impact on the community that his family calls home. Since the end of the recession in 2011, Jason has been the lead civil engineer for over 25 mixed-use and multi-family projects in the greater Charleston area that have completed construction or that are currently under construction.
Derrick Stewart – Power Design
As Director of Preconstruction, Derrick maintains a hyper-focus on customer needs, facilitating collaboration between estimating and other departments to ensure a cohesive delivery on every project. His work-hard, play-hard mentality has proven vital to securing new work for Power Design while setting high expectations for his team of more than 40 people.

Derrick’s experience at Power Design began in 2008, working in finance, business development and estimating prior to becoming the Director of Preconstruction. With his B.A. in Business Administration and M.B.A from University of Florida, Derrick brings a fresh perspective to the leadership team while proving the value Power Design provides, specifically with design build and design assist delivery methods in the multifamily industry.
