CF Evans Construction Earns Dual Gold Safety Awards from NCDOL
CF Evans Construction was recognized by the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Safety Awards Program with two Certificates of Safety Achievement, awarded at the Gold level for outstanding safety and health performance in 2025.
The Evado project in Fletcher, NC, led by Superintendent Lee Peterson, earned First Year Gold recognition. Busbee 1A, part of Weller at the Preserve and led by Superintendent Brad Sowell, was awarded Second Consecutive Year Gold, marking back-to-back years of top-tier safety performance on that site.
The NCDOL’s Safety Awards Program, administered through its Occupational Safety and Health Division, recognizes private and public firms that achieve and maintain strong safety records, with the goal of encouraging accident prevention and safer workplaces statewide. To qualify for an annual award, a project must have zero fatalities at the site for the calendar year and maintain an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its industry group. The Gold Award — the level earned by both Evado and Busbee 1A — is based on the DART rate, which accounts for cases involving days away from work, restricted activity, or job transfer.
Consecutive-year recognition, as earned on Busbee 1A, reflects sustained discipline rather than a single strong year, a standard that has to be met and re-met, project after project, day after day.
Safety is a core part of how CF Evans operates, not an afterthought layered on top of the schedule. Every project, regardless of size or timeline, is held to the same standard: protect the people on site first, and build from there. These two awards reflect the work of Lee Peterson and Brad Sowell and their crews on the ground, along with Senior Superintendent Dan Briggs, whose oversight helps set that standard across projects.
Recognition from the state labor department carries real weight, it’s an independent, outside confirmation that the systems and culture CF Evans has built around jobsite safety are working as intended, not just on paper but in practice.
