Greenville is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and with the revitalization of downtown, it doesn’t look like that growth will be slowing down anytime soon. This opens the door up for a number of opportunities in multifamily construction. Join us on September 14th for a panel discussion hosted by CF Evans Construction. Hear from some of the top players in the industry and city government about multifamily construction in Greenville and surrounding areas. Topics will include (but are not limited to): development, constructability, permitting requirements/challenges, architectural review, and team coordination.

Panelists

David Summers (moderator) – CF Evans Construction
As Director of Construction, David is responsible for overseeing and directing all activities and personnel related to the construction operations of the company. This includes working with Preconstruction during preliminary schedule and budget creation, subcontractor qualification, constructability reviews, and value engineering exercises. David is responsible for ensuring the Owner’s expectations are met and exceeded and is responsible for monitoring all work for compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, as well as overall conformance to the contract documents. Other critical duties include the recruitment and training of the construction team, as well as providing career leadership for the construction personnel. Since joining CF Evans in 2002, David has held the positions of Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, General Project Manager, and Division Manager. David is a graduate of Clemson University, where he majored in Construction Science and Management and minored in Business.


Brian Schick – Woodfield Investments
Brian has primary responsibility for sourcing and overseeing development of Woodfield’s projects in the Upstate of SC. He is currently overseeing the development of The Greene, a 271-unit garage-wrapped apartment community on S. Main Street in Greenville, SC and a 240-unit project nearing completion in Summerville, SC. In the six years with Woodfield, Brian has developed nearly 1,000 units and assisted in raising $150,000,000 in equity for Woodfield’s projects throughout its footprint. Prior to joining Woodfield, Brian was Manager of Business Development (Carolinas) for Turner Construction. During his tenure, Turner won over $1 billion in contracts and constructed several notable projects, including: Boeing 787 Assembly Facility, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Cherokee Casino and Hotel and the NC Research Campus. While with Turner, Brian earned the US Green Building Council’s certification as a LEED Accredited Professional. Brian is a graduate of the University of SC, Moore School of Business, double-majoring in Finance and Business Economics.

Rusty Porter – CF Evans Construction
Dating back to 1986, Rusty has an extensive resume with an emphasis on design/build team leadership and preconstruction services. As Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Rusty is responsible for the operations budget throughout the entire preconstruction phase. Rusty also supervises all estimating and schedule development. In addition, Rusty analyzes project logistics and value engineering throughout all phases of the construction management process.

 

Gaye Sprague – Sprague & Sprague Consulting Engineers/Greenville City Council At-Large Representative
Gaye Sprague is the owner and principal of Sprague & Sprague Consulting Engineers and has Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from Clemson University. A strong practitioner and believer in civic leadership, Gaye served on the South Carolina Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors from 2002 to 2008 and in the Greenville community has served as chair of the Board of the Greenville Transit Authority and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee. Gaye has been active in organizations for traffic, civil, and professional engineers and has taught under-graduate and graduate civil engineering courses at Clemson.
She has been a Cub Scout den leader, co-president of both the Augusta Circle Elementary PTA and the Hughes Academy PTSA, and co-chair of the beautification committee for the Greenville High School PTSA. She currently serves on the boards of the Piedmont Health Foundation and the Peace Center. She is an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Elected in 2009, Gaye serves as one of two at-large representatives on Greenville City Council where she has worked to make Greenville a thriving community with a quality of life that attracts and keeps our young people here.
A native of Anderson, South Carolina and Greenville resident since 1983, Gaye is married to Joel Sprague. Their son Jay, his wife Mollie, and their sons Colson and Reid also live in Greenville.

Charles L. Travis III, FAIA – Housing Studio
Chuck Travis has been a long-term advocate for the art, craft and technology of housing practice, dedicating his career to formulating housing design strategies that are both economically and environmentally sustainable. His work has resulted in applicable solutions for the challenges housing projects bring to owners, communities and infrastructure. Numerous design awards, including multiple AIA awards, a traveling fellowship, and over thirty multi-family industry awards, attest to the impact his work as had on suburban communities, high-rise condominiums, historic renovations, and single-family homes.
In 2010, Chuck received the AIA Charlotte Service Award in recognition of his extraordinary service to the community and profession. Chuck has lectured on housing design trends to national and international audiences and continues to serve as a frequent juror to academic housing studios and award committees. Currently Mayor of Cornelius, North Carolina, Chuck has worked to establish an Architectural Review Board and co-authored guidelines for the preservation of the town’s historic residential district.

Joe Bryant – SeamonWhiteside
Joe Bryant, MCE, PE, LEED AP is the Managing Principal and lead engineer in SeamonWhiteside’s Greenville office. Joe joined SW+ in 2006 filling the role of Project Coordinator for the civil engineering department. In recognition of his skills as both a civil engineer and operations supervisor, Joe became Branch Manager of SeamonWhiteside’s Greenville office in 2013. Now a shareholder and Managing Principal for the firm, Joe oversees business development, client services, and personnel management in the Upstate. He is a client-focused individual who takes the time to understand project goals beyond what is on paper and works diligently to meet or exceed his client’s expectations. Joe holds a Master of Science, Civil Engineering from Norwich University, Vermont and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University. He is a registered professional engineer with licensing in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
